Update on boom gates
The Committee has agreed to proceed with the construction of 6 nos boom gates in taman which will be operated from 12mn to 5.30am daily.
Based on 2 quotations received so far, the best quotation to supply & install them is RM6,000-00. As this quotation is much lower than the other one, we will proceed to place the order with the lower one.
The only outstanding major item to be purchased is 3 nos 5' x 5' guard cabins. The estimated cost to purchase them including transport is RM5,200-00. We welcome any suggestions of alternatives with lower cost.

Construction of boom gates and guard cabins
The boom gates are a neccessity to control and deter would-be thieves and robbers from coming into this taman freely with the hope that these people would target other areas instead of here. Due to the many exits to the various neighbouring tamans, we are unable to close most of them.
For a start, we would provide 3 nos manned boom gates at the main exits and 3 nos unmanned boom gates at the other side lanes exits. The closing times of the main boom gates will be from 12mn to 5.30am daily whereas the other 3 boom gates may be closed slightly earlier.
Due to the urgency and importance of these boom gates and the fact that the local govt will not approve officially the construction of these gates, the committee will probably agree to construct them without getting prior approval from them.
As the cost to construct the 6 boom gates may exceed RM8,000-00, the committee will obtain two quotations from contractors before proceeding to construct them. Up to today, we have obtained a quotation from one contractor.
To ensure that the guards manning the boom gates are properly protected from the elements of weather and insects such as red ants and bees and that the umbrellas, tables and chairs are stored securely (which are now kept in the houses of committee members), the committee will provide lockable guard cabins size 5' X 5' X 8' at the 3 exits. These cabins are standalone structures and are usually factory made. We also wish to inform you that more security gadgets such as floodlights, siren and panic buttons will be provided after the guard cabins have been installed. Of course, other more high-tech equipments such as CCTV and remote panic buttons can be provided if more residents paricipated in this scheme.
We hope to complete the construction of the boom gates by end Sept '08 and the provision of the guard cabins by end October '08.
In the meantime, we hope that the members can bear with us with the present setup and also spread the word around that we are serious about the security of this garden.
